Add Line

To add a line to a chart:

  1. Select the Line tool in one of the following ways:
    • On the toolbar, click the Add Line button.
    • On the toolbar, click the Add Line arrow and then click Add Line.
    • In the Insert menu, point to Lines and then click Add Line.
    • Right-click in the chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Charts Elements and then click Add Line.
    • Press L.
      * In the FX Trading Station, you can also select the Line tool in the following way:
      In the Charts menu, point to Insert, point to Lines and then click Add Line.
  2. Click in the period from which the line will start.
  3. Drag the pointer to the period in which the line will end. As you release the mouse button, the Add Line dialog will appear.
  4. Change the line parameters in the Parameters tab if necessary:
    • To change the name, in the Name box, type the new name.

      Note: To reset the line name to default, click the Reset button.

    • To extend the line from the start point, select the Extend line start checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To extend the line from the end point, select the Extend line end checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To show the line label, select the Show label checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To change the line style, in corresponding boxes, click the desired color, style and width.
  5. Change the line position in the Position tab if necessary:

    • To change the price and date and time at which the line starts or ends, in the appropriate Rate and Date boxes, select or type the price and date and time.

    Notes:

    • To apply the changed properties (except the name) to all further lines by default, click Set as Default.
    • To reset factory settings for the line, click the Reset button.
  6. Click OK.

Notes:

  • You can use the Line tool until tools timeout expires. To change tools timeout, see General Options.
  • To deselect the Line tool, do the same actions as for selecting the tool or one of the following:
    1. Right-click in the chart.
    2. Press ESC.

Change Line Properties

To change the properties of a line:

  1. Do one of the following:

    The Line Properties dialog will appear.

  2. Change the line parameters in the Parameters tab:
    • To change the name, in the Name box, type the new name.

      Note: To reset the line name to default, click the Reset button.

    • To extend the line from the start point, select the Extend line start checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To extend the line from the end point, select the Extend line end checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To show the line label, select the Show label checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To change the line style, in the corresponding boxes click the color, style and width.
  3. Change the line position in the Position tab:

    • To change the price and date and time at which the line starts or ends, in the appropriate Rate and Date boxes, select or type the price and date and time.

    Notes:

    • To apply the changed properties (except the name) to all further lines by default, click Set as Default.
    • To reset factory settings for the line, click the Reset button.
  4. Click OK.

Move Line

To move a line:

  1. Click the line. The line will become thicker and markers will appear at the both ends of the line.
  2. Drag the marker of one or each end to the desired period(s) on the chart.

You can move a line changing the date and time and price levels at which the line starts and ends. For details, see Change Line Properties.

Move Line Parallel to Its Initial Position

To move a line parallel to its initial position:

  • Drag the line to the desired place on the chart.

Copy Line

To copy a line:

  • Hold down CTRL and drag the line to the desired place on the chart.

Note: When you copy a line, the new line will be parallel to the copied line.

Remove Line

To remove a line, do one of the following:

Add Line on OHLC

To add a line on Open, High, Low or Close to a chart:

  1. Select the appropriate tool in one of the following ways:
    • On the toolbar, click the Add Line arrow and then click any of the Add Line on Open/High/Low/Close commands.
    • In the Insert menu, point to Lines and then click any of the Add Line on Open/High/Low/Close commands.
    • Right-click in the chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Charts Elements and then click any of the Add Line on Open/High/Low/Close commands.
    • Press CTRL + ALT + O.
      * In the FX Trading Station, you can also select the appropriate tool in the following way:
      In the Charts menu, point to Insert, point to Lines and then click any of the Add Line on Open/High/Low/Close commands.
  2. Click in the period from which the line will start.
  3. Drag the pointer to the period in which the line will end. As you release the mouse button, the Add Line on OHLC dialog will appear.

  4. Change the line parameters in the Parameters tab if necessary:
    • To change the name, in the Name box, type the new name.

      Note: To reset the line name to default, click the Reset button.

    • To change the type of the line, in the Type box, click Open, High, Low, or Close.
    • To extend the line from the start point, select the Extend line start checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To extend the line from the end point, select the Extend line end checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To show the line label, select the Show label checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To change the line style, in the corresponding boxes, click the desired color, style and width.
  5. Change the line position in the Position tab if necessary:

    • To change the date and time at which the line starts or ends, in the appropriate Date box, select or type the date and time.

  6. Click OK.

    • To show the line label, select the Show label checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To change the line style, in the corresponding boxes, click the desired color, style and width.
  3. Change the line position in the Position tab if necessary:

    • To change the date and time at which the line starts or ends, in the appropriate Date box, select or type the date and time.

  4. Click OK.

Move Line on OHLC

To move a line on OHLC:

  1. Click the line. The line becomes thicker and markers appear at the both ends of the line.
  2. Drag the marker of one or each end to the desired period(s) on the chart.

You can also move a line changing the date and time at which the line starts and ends. For details see Change Line on OHLC Properties.

Shift Line on OHLC

You can shift a line on OHLC along periods on a chart. In this case you change the periods which the line goes through but the number of the periods remains the same.

To shift a line on OHLC:

  • Drag the line to the desired periods on the chart.
