Price Alerts

Price alerts are used to notify a trader about symbol price satisfying certain conditions specified by the trader. The condition can be the price below, below or equal, above, above or equal a certain value. The notification can be a message and/or a sound.

Add Price Alert

To add a price alert:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In the Price Alerts menu, click Add Price Alert.
    • Right-click in the chart or in the price values. In the pop-up menu, click Add Price Alert.
    • Right-click in a chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Price Alerts and then click Add Price Alert.
    • See Manage Price Alerts.
      * In the FX Trading Station, the command is available in the Charts menu, in the Price Alerts sub-menu.
  2. The Add Price Alert dialog will appear.

  3. Type the name for your price alert if you wish.
  4. Specify the condition in the Main tab:
    • To specify the symbol for which the price alert is created, select the appropriate symbol in the Symbol box.
    • To specify the price for which the price alert is created, click Bid or Ask.
    • To specify the sign, select your sign in the appropriate box.
    • To specify the price value, type your value in the appropriate box.
    • To specify the price type, click Real time or Close and for the close price select the time period from the appropriate box.
    • To enable the price alert, select the Enabled checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
  5. Specify the notification in the Notification tab:

    • To view a message when the price alert is activated, select the Show message checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To play a sound when the alert is activated, select the Play sound checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • If you select to play a sound, select the sound from the appropriate box or specify your sound file.
    • If you select to play a sound, to play the sound repeatedly until stopped, select the Loop checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To leave the price alert enabled after activation, select the Recurrent checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • If you select a recurrent price alert, specify the time interval (in hours, minutes and seconds) after which the price alert can be activated again in the Timeout box.

      The maximum number of activations is defined in the system.

    Note: To apply the changed properties (except the name) to all further price alerts by default, click Set as Default.

  6. Click OK.

Change Price Alert Properties

To change the price value of a price alert:

  • Drag the price alert line to the desired rate.

To change any of the properties of a price alert:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Double-click the price alert line or label.
    • Right-click the price alert line or label. In the pop-up menu, click Change Price Alert ‘Condition’, where ‘Condition’ is the condition of the price alert which you want to change.
    • See Manage Price Alerts.

    The Price Alert Properties dialog will appear.

  2. Change the name of your price alert if you wish.
  3. Change the condition in the Main tab:
    • To change the symbol for which the price alert is created, select the appropriate symbol in the Symbol box.
    • To change the price for which the price alert is created, click Bid or Ask.
    • To change the sign, select your sign in the appropriate box.
    • To change the price value, type your value in the appropriate box.
    • To change the price type, click Real time or Close and for the close price select the time period from the appropriate box.
    • To enable the price alert, select the Enabled checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
  4. Change the notification in the Notification tab:

    • To view a message when the price alert is activated, select the Show message checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To play a sound when the alert is activated, select the Play sound checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • If you select to play a sound, select the sound from the appropriate box or specify your sound file.
    • If you select to play a sound, to play the sound repeatedly until stopped, select the Loop checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • To leave the price alert enabled after activation, select the Recurrent checkbox. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
    • If you select a recurrent price alert, specify the time interval (in hours, minutes and seconds) after which the price alert can be activated again in the Timeout box. The maximum number of activations is defined in the system.
  5. Note: To apply the changed properties (except the name) to all further price alerts by default, click Set as Default.

  6. Click OK.

Remove Price Alert

To remove a price alert, do one of the following:

  • Right-click the price alert line or label. In the pop-up menu, click Remove Price Alert ‘Condition’, where ‘Condition’ is the condition of the price alert which you want to remove.
  • See Manage Price Alerts.

Manage Price Alerts

In the List of Price Alerts dialog you can view all created alerts: their state (enabled, disabled or activated), condition, name and the number of activations (and the number of possible activations in brackets). You can add, change and remove alerts using the dialog.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In the Price Alerts menu, click Manage Price Alerts.
    • Right-click in a chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Price Alerts and then click Manage Price Alerts.
    • Right-click the line or the label of a price alert. In the pop-up menu click Manage Price Alerts.
    • Right-click in the Last Activated Price Alerts window. In the pop-up menu click Manage Price Alerts.
      * In the FX Trading Station, the command is available in the Charts menu, in the Price Alerts sub-menu.
  2. To view alerts for a certain symbol, select the symbol checkbox and choose the symbol from the appropriate box. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
  3. To view alerts for a certain price type, select the price type checkbox and choose the price type from the appropriate box. Otherwise, clear the checkbox.
  4. To change a price alert, click the price alert in the list and then click the Change button. The Price Alert Properties dialog wll appear. For further actions, see Change Price Alert Properties.
  5. To add a new price alert, click the Add button. The Add Price Alert dialog will appear. For further actions, see Add Price Alert.
  6. To remove a price alert, select the price alert in the list and then click the Delete button.

Enable/Disable Price Alert

You can enable/disable a price alert at once when you create it as described in Add Price Alert or when you change it (see Change Price Alert Properties).

You can also disable a price alert in the following way:

  • Right-click the price alert line or label and click Disable Price Alert ‘Condition’ where ‘Condition’ is the condition of the price alert you wish to disable.

Stop Sound

When you choose the Play sound notification and especially when you choose to loop the sound, you may want to stop playing the sound for the current activation.

To stop playing a sound, do one of the following:

  • In the Price Alerts menu, click Stop Sound.
  • Right-click a price alert line or label. In the pop-up menu, click Stop Sound.
  • Right-click in a chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Price Alerts and then click Stop Sound.
  • Right-click in the Last Activated Price Alerts window. In the pop-up menu, click Stop Sound.
    * In the FX Trading Station, the command is available in the Charts menu, in the Price Alerts sub-menu.

Show/Hide Activated Alerts

When a price alert is activated, it appears in the Activated Price Alerts window for a short time – initially highlighted, then without highlighting. The time, as well as color and font settings, can be specified in Price Alerts Options.

The window shows the symbol, activation price and time, and the name of the price alert (if there is any).

To show/hide Activated Price Alerts, do one of the following:

  • In the Price Alerts menu, click Show Activated Price Alerts.
  • Right-click a price alert line or label. In the pop-up menu, click Show Activated Price Alerts.
  • Right-click in a chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Price Alerts and then click Show Activated Price Alerts.
    * In the FX Trading Station, the command is available in the Charts menu, in the Price Alerts sub-menu.

A price alert can be removed from the list by right-clicking in the appropriate row and selecting Remove. For activated price alerts with the Play sound notification, in the pop-up menu of the window, the Stop Sound command is also available.

Show/Hide Alert Lines and Labels

An enabled price alert is shown on the appropriate chart (with the same symbol) as a horizontal line at the price value specified in the condition. The line has a label which indicates the condition of the price alert. An activated price alerts is shown in the same way but in a different style. Disabled alerts are not shown.

To show/hide price alerts lines on the chart:

  • Right-click in the chart. In the pop-up menu, point to Price Alerts and then click Show Price Alerts.

You can choose to show/hide price alert lines by default or change their style, color and width in Price Alerts Options.

Also you can move, hide and show labels of price alerts in the default position (in which they initially appear).

To move a label:

  • Drag it to the desired place on the chart.

To show or hide a label:

  1. Right-click the price alert line the label of which you want to show or hide.
  2. To hide the label, in the pop-up menu, click Hide label for Price Alert ‘Condition’, where ‘Condition’ is the condition of the price alert the label of which you want to hide.
  3. To show the label in the default position, in the pop-up menu, click Show label for Price Alert ‘Condition’ in default position, where ‘Condition’ is the condition of the price alert the label of which you want to see in the default position.
